Electronics cluster to come up in Bangalore

The principal secretary to Karnataka government for IT, BT and S&T department, I S N Prasad told this to reporters on the sidelines of an “Interactive Workshop on Regulatory & Operational Issues” organised by the department and Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology (MAIT) here on Wednesday. 

He said, “The (electronics city) proposal has been sent to the Central government for approval and we expect it to come within a month or so. The total project cost will be Rs 100 crore, to be shared equally between Centre and Karnatak a governments.” If the approval comes through as expected, the cluster would be completed during this fiscal, he added. 

The cluster will offer common testing and related facilities to all manufacturers; MSME units will benefit immensely from it, he said. 

Earlier, minister for IT, BT and S&T, S R Patil said that the state government has formed a core committee on ICT & Electronics Hardware to explore possibilities of scaling up ESDM activity in Karnataka. The ESDM industry is estimated at $45 billion dollars in India and poised to grow to about $400 billion by 2020.
